Lowering the Handbrake!

We decided the handbrake was sitting a bit high when it was on, so a cut and weld job was in order. Luckily we had the spare Granada one to trial this job otherwise it would have been a bit nerve wracking cutting up our only lever.
First we cut a triangle out of the lever just in front of the locking device. then we fitted a spacer below the spring under the thumb button to take up the slack. Then we welded the lever in place at its new lower angle.

And here's the result of our efforts, this is the handbrake fully applied, this was the angle of the lever when the handbrake was off before we started so its much better.

And here it is in the off position....Lots more elbow room !

Now here is Joey making up a cover for the handbrake which will double as a elbow rest, He made cardboard templates then transferred it to Aluminium Sheets cut to size and then made little angles to hold it in position

Here is a closer view, he has used plenty of Jointing Compound and will seal it up with RTV sealant before covering it with carpet.
