A little fuel leak

Puts us Back a long time!

The adaptor coming from the fuel tank started to drip, we added another Jubilee clip which did not help, the garage was starting to smell like a petrol station, we ordered some new 15mm braided fuel pipe but again this did not help.

The leak was in fact coming from where the adaptor enters the swirl pot, We could not tighten it any more as it was only a plastic thread, In our opinion a bit of a design flaw!(Sorry Mr Gibbons)

We decided a locknut was needed inside the swirl pot, this would have been really easy when the tank was being built but now we had a heck of a job ahead of us!
The picture shows the fun ahead, The hole is where the fuel sender was fitted, at the bottom of the tank you can just make out three holes into the swirl pot. How the heck are we going to get a locknut fitted into that little gap?

This is how we did it!
First we cut a bigger hole so we could get our hands in.

Then ditto that for the fuel sender holes, Now we could fit the locknut onto the new longer adaptor.

And here is the outside view of our new fuel setup. the new adaptor has a locknut on the inside of the tank so can be tightened up nicely. The 90 degree elbow is a 90p B&Q gas adaptor and this connects to our original home made adaptor.

Then after the adaptor there is a short piece of braided fuel hose then our home made fuel filter which leads onto the longer bit of hose which runs to the fuel pump. We are happy with the new layout of the pipework, it looks a lot neater than before.

Now all that is left is to seal up the top end, Joey made this plate to screw to the top of the Fuel tank, which we can bolt the sender to.

And here it is all sealed up using Fuel proof sealant.
Now where were we on the rest of the build?
