Getting the wheels pointing right
(Setting the tracking)
Here is the story of us setting the tracking, something that we were both a bit worried about but in the end it was not that bad a task. Luckily we borrowed a set of optical tracking devices from our mate Steve Christopher (Thanks mate).
The next Thing was that we had to set up the alignment of the rear wheels so we could then start working on the fronts. We thought about long bits of wood, tape measures, String etc. etc. Then decided this was quite hard work so we decided to revert to laser power. As we missed out on the last Lidl offer which was selling laser spirit levels we had to bite the bullet and get a
B & Q one intead, still it was only £13 MORE !.
After using the spirit level to set the camber of each front wheel Then we found the center point of the steering rack by going full one way then full the other then halving it and then made sure the fronts were pointing straight ahead
We lined up the rear wheels using the laser level which fitted perfectly against the Array wheel rim, when the distance between the rear and front wheels were exactly the same, they were all pointing straight ahead.
Then we set up the toe in using Steves magic tools. All you had to do was touch the probes against the Arrays then line up the Black triangle and set the device to 0 Degrees.
Once we had adjusted the toe in, we drove the car up and down the drive and took the measurements again, it took a few attempt's to get it right.
And finally it was ready for it's trial run at Scampton!
