Time for some Backward vision.
One of the current set of jobs we can do whilst the scuttle was in place is to fit the "Motorbike" mirrors that we are using. We bought them for a Tenner at the Newark Auto Jumble. We liked them, they were "E marked" and they were plenty long enough to ensure the rear vision requirements of the SVA would be met.
Here Joey carefully drills the mounting holes, as you can see he has used tape for marking the holes and to make sure his drill does not wander.
now he is seating the rubber boot which also very conveniently meets the SVA needs.
And here he is testing how it works and the answer is "Very Well".
We did not do the full "SVA" measuring job like it shows you in the book, but we drove down the drive and we could easily see right into the garage so it should be no problem.
So thats the Right one fitted and we think it looks pretty good, now for the left side.
Unfortunately the Left side was always going to be a bit more difficult to fit. This was because the mounting arm was a slightly different shape so we would have to remake it, this was a shame because the rubber boot would not fit at the bottom end, never mind Joey was going to make one out of some Rubber sheet for now.
Here he surveys the cut down shaft which has been remade using some Steel tube which had been flattened at the hinge end.
And here it is sealed up and ready for the rubber boot to be made, Think its about time we had a cup of Tea Joey!
Right change of plan ! We got a new Left side Mirror from the Newark Auto Jumble for a grand sum of £3, We had to hunt around a lot as there was plenty of "Right" Hand Mirrors but only 2 sellers had a "Left" one. The first bloke wanted £10 but after a good walk round we found one £7 cheaper.
Anyway our new one matches the drivers one perfectly and Just bolted in place perfectly.
The interior Mirror is the one of the Donor Sierra, Its a bit big but will do for now,.
Footnote: The original mirror was a real nightmare, when turning to the left I had to duck my head so I could see past it. So it was a great day when Joey fitted our little Chrome SVC mirror, much better we can see forwards and backwards now!
