Barkston Heath 2005

Well the big day had finally arrived and despite the rather bleak forcast the day dawned really sunny so Joey and I set off from home nice and early feeling really excited. This time we were actually driving the Hood there as opposed to last year when we took it on the trailer. This did mean we had to be careful about what supplies we took, in the end we took the Jerry can full of fuel a few tools and some sticky tape for the numbers, Oh and we took the "Car Cover" just in case. In the end it was just as well we did, as the crowds gathered so did the clouds.
As usual it was a full paddock and had quite a variety of cars, some of the professionals bringing their track day specials on trailers, Some nice Tin Tops and lots of Hoods (No M&Ars though )

Tim Norman detailed his kids to hand out the number cards and they quickly handed us the number 1 (I think Tim must have had a word with them). Struth here we were first on track again!
Mind you Joeys car was more track ready than last year I suppose, at least we had 3k miles under our belts this time rather than the 30 odd like last year.
We had some tricks up our sleeves to get the car ready for the track, first we folded the wind deflectors back and then we "Emptied the Boot"

Oh Dear, that Fast Bloke is here! Better get the Fire engines parked round the "Emergency Water Supply" Fence

Steve kept his sidescreens on for more streamlining, while Chris Brown took his friend "Emu" for the ride to scrutineering.

Right this where things get serious, Poor old Me and Joey first on the track again! Chris was right behind us This time he left his pet bird behind. The first lap was very slippy so we took it easy (One Hood didn't drive very sensibly and crashed on his first lap ) As the session went on the track dried out and our times went down, Joey was using the stopwatch and his sister Katie's video camera to record our fun. The first lap he timed was 1.05 in the Wet and we soon got it down to 1.02 as we got into the swing of things.

We had a fabulous day Zooming round the track it started as 20 minute sessions and this was shortened to 15 Minutes due to the dodgy looking weather. In the end we all had plenty of track time both in the damp slippery conditions and the dry sunny ones. Just before the timed session began Joey was timing us at just over a minute so we were pretty happy with that.

Looks like Chris Brown was after some more Horsepower clues after he was caught under Ken Brough's bonnet

John Walton took Joey round for a couple of laps "To show him how it should be done" Thanks John!

At the end of the timed laps John called all the interested parties together to announce the times, We were happy with our 60.01 seconds shame we did not break the 1 minute barrier but at least we beat one bloke I wondered why Chris Brown had gone all quiet Never mind mate there is always September.

I must say a big thank you to all the organisers for this great event.
One thing that really pleased me was that at the end of the day one of the RAF Organisers "Martin" came to me and told me how impressed he was with Joey, he said he was a really polite and interesting lad Now that did make me proud!
