Barkston Heath September 3rd 2005

Friday before the big day Joey and I had the pleasure of "Salty Dan" and "Drews" company for the evening, shame they did not get to our house till 11pm, it meant that we had a rather late night's drinking session "3am" (Not really recommended before a track day) Mind you the "Full English" seemed to go down well so the hangovers were not that bad.
As our visitors had a tin top to race we managed to off load a lot of our luggage on them, which was quite lucky really as we would never have fitted it all in.
We had a relatively uneventful journey to Barkston, the only funny bit was when we had been "Stalking" a large Motorcycle for quite a few miles, and eventually "We Pounced" and blasted past him Obviously upset the bloke because as soon as we slowed for the 30mph limit at Ancaster he shot past us Never mind, seems that Motorcycle powered persons are on a different planet to the rest of us !!!
Well at last its arrived and we are here! The third "Barkston Heath Track day" as usual there was a full compliment of Hoodies (And some Clingons).

We were quite glad that we were not given the number "1" like the past two events We were a rather more inconspicuous 17. In the background you can see Dan and Drews "Freeby Racer" Amazing to think that it was a 12 year old car which they just drove all the way up from London and then planned to thrash it continuosly round a track all day.

Now who is this Old Bloke? Oh yes its Nigel "Longboarder" Thurstan, He's not going to be very fast is he ?

After a quick scutineering and signing on session we were back on track, cracking fun. The car ran superbly And we both had a shedload of fun. This picture was taken by "Peter Knight" using our "Canon Digital Ixus", Thanks Pete.

The weather was fabulous Really warm and sunny, the day consisted of track sessions, short Chat sessions then out on track again Bloody brilliant.

The biggest shock of the day was how Slow "Rizla" was this was the car that was going to wipe the floor with all the "Hoodies" and here we found out that it was Rubbish, Even Sir Chris Brown beat him on the first times session, Unfortunately Me and Joey didn't quite manage it "8" hundredths of a second short of Razzlers time, Damn and Blast! Mind you here we see our "Hero" desperately trying to wipe the marks off his mudguard after he demolished a marker cone

Here is the proof of the times Look how many "Normal" cars beat Razzlers number 3 car

The car took a well earned break at dinnertime, meanwhile we had a good Burger at the van that John Walton had kindly arranged for us.

The Old Geezer we saw earlier had a nice Kip under his car !

He Looks a bit Groggy Now

Meanwhile some "Wag" had added an "L" plate to Rizlers Slow M&R
The afternoon session was much like the morning one we all had great fun, I got a lift in the MN&R and tried to hide my dissapointment when I got out Poor old Razler you could see that he was Gutted, how on earth can these "Robin Hood" Types beat his "yellow Canoe".

Back at the campsite and we found this "Broken Man", look at him "Billy No mates" consoling himself with Alcohol

Joey and I are changing the front suspension on our 2nd Hood, so we had these spare components left over, so a quick engraving job with a sharp object and there we have it "The Sliding Pillock Award" and guess who won it?
Rizler

Mick Mellors struggled to hold his on to his snack on the club Barby

After Dark we found Young Andrew tucking into his rather large snack!

Whilst under the influence "Mick Mellors" kept us all amused by pointing out each and every Satellite,
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, The long winter evenings must fly by with you Mick!"

Young Andrew became a lot braver when his "Essex Boys" Minders turned up

Joey and Jack decided to hide in the Hood

After "Mr Slow" made a Derogatory remark about Dan's Fiesta, it looked like Rizla was in for a beating

Even though Joey was really tired he still managed to "Party On"

The next morning dawned a bit Grey and Misty but showed all the promise of a good day. We started with a nice Bacon and Egg Butty cooked on Tim and Sue's Barby, Mmmmmm.

Rizlar still tries to decide if he still loves his Yellow Toy, Dan considers making a silly offer!

No idea whats going on in this shot, Could it be that Rizla is doing his Elephant impression again ?

Another shot that would be worthy of a "Caption Contest"
This time its "Rizla" and "Mrs Rizla (Julie)" posing for the camera.

Soon we arrived at "Ancaster Kart Center" ready for another Thrash session !

As the first group did their familiarisation laps some of us were hoping we would not make fools out of ourselves

The favourite of the day was Drew Blackmore (Drewsus), All his past Karting experience was bound to help him lift the Trophy !

Whilst Joey gets ready for his next race "Pete Fox" lets everyone know how he managed to pip me at the post by inches in our last race "Bloody tyre pressures were wrong on my Stupid Kart "

Now Joey is getting some racing tips from that old bloke "Nigel"

Well Nigels racing tips obviously worked well because in this picture we see Joey still in his Kart, what do you notice about this picture? Well notice that there is an empty Kart behind him and there is a bloke storming up the pit lane !! Well thats none other than "Tim Norman" and Joey had just beat him

The Final race was a cracker, there was all sorts of desperate manouvres and spins galore

True to form Drew Got the highest score of the day But:

The race was finally won by "Guy Wilson" after a brilliant drive, "Drew" came second and look who came "turd", I mean "Third" Its Rizla, pretty good for a fat bloke eh!
So that was it, the end of a brilliant weekend, Perfect Weather, Great Company, and the odd Beer or Two
Oh By the way one of the most impressive drivers of the weekend had to be : That "Old Bloke" Nigel Thurstan he came 7th overall at Barkston and when you consider the "cost" of some of the machinery in front of him, he did a really good Job.
Dan and Drew also deserve a mention as does their Fiesta which performed very well and even got them home afterwards, Nice one Lads. Sir Chris did a good job for an Old Codger, and at the other end of the "Age" scale James Fox also did well, The best thing about the weekend though was that "Everyone" had a great time no matter where they finished
Roll on next year.
