A bit of Winter servicing

While the weather was yuckie this winter we moved the second 2B out to the little garage out the front and got Joeys into the normal "Heated" one.
Our list of "things to do" was pleasingly short, Joeys car had performed really well in its first year especially considering we had covered 8000 miles and done 3 trackdays at Barkston. In fact the biggest thing we needed to do was the lower Front suspension bracket which was a bit rusty and needed a lick of paint, not suprising really as it took the brunt of the salty roads over the winter.

While the brackets were hanging about we turned our attention to the other Suspension bits. They just needed a bit of a clean up really, The powder coating was still like new

The Disc's on the other hand were slightly weathered but we were not really that concerned about this because we did not do any special treatment to them so it was hardly suprising.
One thing that we had noticed was a slight judder on the steering when braking, At first I thought it might be that the Disk was possibly warped, something that I believe Ford vented disks can be a bit prone to. Or we also though it might be because we have no servo, we are getting more feedback from the brakes. As we had another brand new set waiting to be fitted to 2B (2) we fitted them to Joeys instead.

When the car was on jacks we noticed that spinning the right wheel back and forward it just did not feel right, it felt a bit sloppy. It was not wobbling as if the bearings were worn but something was not quite right so we stripped it down. We found that there was a tear in one of the Bearing seals and there was not as much grease in it as their should be.

See what I mean about the lack of grease. As it was the Bearings and Races were not worn at all so a quick call to Lincoln Ford and we ordered another seal for a couple of quid.

Joey carefully cleaned and repacked the bearings making sure the grease was squeezed right into the rollers.
Then the whole front end was reassembled complete with nicely painted Suspension brackets and off we went for a nice drive, and guess what ?
The brakes were perfect! Not a hint of a judder. Excellent stuff.
