The tale of a DVLA visit (Or Two!)

One day I got a phone call from our mate Craig Love from Grimsby, asking for some help with his ailing Hood. Apparently he was on his way to his DVLA Build up visit when his rear wheel decided it did not want to remain with the rest of the car. He had made it all the way down the A15 to the A46 Lincoln Bi-Pass before the problem reared its ugly head.
Unfortunately for our hero "Craig" he did not have our phone number and had to wait for his kids to get home so he could ring them so they could consult the family "Phone Book". We arrived too late to keep the DVLA appointment so we decided to take them home and see what we could do to help.
They certainly found a nice house to park the car at !

In no time at all Craig had driven his wobbly machine onto the trailer.

Unfortunately he was a bit quick driving on and a bit slow with the brakes and before we knew it he had hit the front trailer bar, hense the crunched nosecone, oops

When we got back to our house we decided to donate the wheel studs off our spare Hood so Craig and his Dad could drive home rather than have to trailer it all the way to Grimsby. We felt it would be easier to change the studs whilst the car was still on the trailer just in case we hit problems and could not finish the job.

Here you can see the snapped studs, Craig was lucky that this happened at slow speed because the wheel was not far off breaking right off!

We all had a good laugh whilst we were working, "Mainly at Craigs expense"
Joey was very busy with the cups of tea (Good Lad)!

Job complete, Craig took Joey for a quick test drive.

And when they got back he realised that he had not tightened the wheel nuts
In no time at all they were on their way home, "Four wheels on their Wagon", I bet Craigs Dad was glad to get home in one piece, this was his first trip in a Robin Hood I don't think he will forget it.

A couple of weeks later was the big day (Number 2) for Craig. He gave me a ring to see if I would like to go with him, Any excuse to take the Hood out especially on such a lovely day.

I decided to stay outside with the cars, Just in case some dickhead decided to clamp our car, Craigs was OK but ours was not an official DVLA visitor

They did look good sitting there don't they? Afterwards we stopped at Starbucks for a Coffee, at one point some bloke shouted over to us saying that something has fallen off the back! A quick panic check that the spare wheel was still there and then I realised that he was Joking that "Craigs number plate had fallen off" Ha Bloody Ha! Anyway good to see another Hood gets on the road. Well done Craig.
