Engine Out, Axle Off

Joey was desperate to get the 1.8 engine out, I decided that he could do it all himself, so on a cold Saturday evening we got ourselves out to the garage with the heater on, Lynyrd Skynyrd on the CD and the mandatory supply of beers
We both enjoy our evenings out in the garage and think that its easier to get work done during the "Cold" season.
First Joey removed the Starter Motor and bagged it up, There is not a lot of 14 year olds who would even recognise a "Starter Motor" let alone be able to remove one, he is a clever chap!

This was one of the things he noticed during the evening, The lower bolts on the Bell Housing were not actually fitted!

The first thing the lad had to do was assemble the Hoist, which he did with no problem.

Then he fitted the the strap to hoist the engine out, it was at this point he had his first problem, when he hoisted the engine the Chassis was rising with the engine, nothing seemed to be jamming and he had removed all the bolts, wonder why it was not coming out?

Mmmm should this engine strap go round the chassis tube ?

He soon worked out the problem and the Engine was out. Well done mate!

Not an awful lot left to remove now, eh!

Right Dad whats next?

Joey's next task did not take him very long, he had to remove the rear axle assembly, he had to grind off a couple of the very dodgy bolts holding the whole assembly in place but managed it all in his stride. We will now fill in the "Multiple holes" in the Dion Tube, De-rust the untreated bits and fit correct sized bolts ready to re-fit the whole thing properly.

It really does look like we are starting again now!

When we lifted the Gearbox out, Joey carefully guided the Speedo cable through the hole in the chassis, we planned to remove the Circlip holding the cable to the Gearbox when we had more access, after all this effort I suppose we could not have expected anything different, there was not a bloody circlip fitted!!!!

So the Floor is the only thing left to remove,That will not be a long job as it is only held on with some cheap Aluminium Rivets and some little tiny screws. I must admit We do have a lot more room in the garage now though.

Look at these, This was the size of the screws holding the floor in place Hardly worth the effort surely some Selotape would have done just as well
