Renault World series at Donington Park
Well the time has come and as usual Joey and I have done very little preperation for this weekend,
so I got home from work at 10 past 4 and we had to fit our new "Surrey Top", It did not really take that long to do it and we are very pleased with it. Oh and I also robbed the Brake Microswitch off the Granada to replace the one that Joey Knocked off his Hood with his rather large feet !
The journey took a lot longer than expected, firstly there was quite a lot of traffic and secondly the "Sat Nav" decided to take us to Loughborough instead, Apparently this happened to Darren Fasey only he did not go all the way there
The next morning it was "Raining" not just the light showers that was forcasted, no this was Rain of the "Buckets" variety !
2 hours later and it was still tipping it down, was it ever going to let up?
There was a short break in the rain so we popped over to the circuit, after we parked up the "Rains" returned, Some of us had dressed for the conditions "Like Barry", some had dressed down "Like Andy"
The Spitfire looked in a bit of a sorry state, what a shame.
Here we see Joey and a bloke in a "Red" Coat.
The Dodgems Gave us all a break from the rain. Lou, Daren and Joey were the drivers, Joey scared me a bit when he got in his car and put his Seatbelt around his neck!
Later on Andy Windows Hood was to be the "Campsite Entertainment" by refusing to start when Andy tried to return from the circuit, Of course Mitch had left with Andy and did not bother to wait for our poor ailing Hero
The Dead Hood was wheeled straight into the Garage (I mean Marquee) where a dozen or so Mechanics tried to diagnose the problem.
Sir Chris explains to Big Lee that he thinks its the "Dangling Ball Joint" thats the problem, Obviously Lee does not wish to hear about Chris's problem.
Andys Flat Battery was the first problem to overcome so out came the Jump leads.
Meanwhile Joey was trying to sort out his wet foot problem using Carrier bags under his trainers (Silly Boy)
The rest of the Boys were hard at work "Tinkering" Here Barry thoughtfully mops Big Lees Brow, whilst Sir Chris gets stuck into the Distributor which was so full of water Andy was thinking of getting a "Water Meter" fitted!
After a while the car was running sweetly and Jim was spotted drying his socks on the Exhaust
Now the entertainment was over there was time to look around the site, Now theres a couple of nice cars (And a Volvo!).
Gordon and Tim did the "Ceremonial Raising of the Vette Flag"
I'm glad Tim did not cook our tea !
Johnboymac's lad David struck it lucky when his folks remortgaged the house to get the lucky boy a new Renault Jacket !
"Howard and Hilda" were on the prowl again, they knew that someone else had arrived but could not work out who it was. "Robbie 2B was Keeping a very low profile.
Later on we retired to the "Social Room", and we saw a Horrible Face, and Lou made a funny face as well !
The peace and quiet of the "Social room" was shattered when these four lads turned up, When we heard the "Scouser" accent's Mitch immediately went out to check the wheels were still on his car.
Big Lee could not Hold his Ale again!
The next morning dawned grey but dry, After breakfast There was a lot of interest in Gordons 5.7 Litres. It is a lovely car though, Shame we could not say the same about Tim's "Cowboy" hat?
The Convoy was nearly ready, "Who are we waiting for"?
Oh c'mon "Sir Chris", what have you been doing in those woods?
Soon afterwards we were at the trackside, Looks like the "Phuckawi" tribe have joined in this race.
But even the noise of the "World Series" could keep Tim awake,
It was an excellent day of racing made all the better because it was free, So well done Renault !
The day was concluded by a nice leasurely drive home in convoy with Gordon and Tim in the Chevvy, The Sun even came out as well, the end of another great "Hoody" weekend.
The first people we met on site was the "Howard and Hilda" couple who pounce on any campers before they have even left their cars demanding Money for the pitch !
In no time at all the tent was up and we retired to the "Social Room" for a night of "Social Drinking"
We still managed to have a good time under the Marquee.
I wonder why they are lurking round the portaloo's ? Mmm that looks like Big Lee peeking out of the door!
Look at the spray from behind the car in the background, They have got a lot of bottle these blokes!
Good move pal
Lou did the driving whilst Daren hung on for dear life and she loved it, She spent a lot of the time aiming for Joeys car,it was really nice to see her laughing when she wacked into him, Or anyone else as it happens.
Anyway good old Mick Mellors took Big Lee in his "V***O" to tow Andrew home where we were all worrying about them
And forcing Beer down our necks in the meantime
Look at that Nice big Corvette in the picture, that belongs to a friend of ours Gordon, Whom had joined us with his son Tim (A Dutton in Bits Owner)
Joey could learn a lot from this man!
It was hilarious to see them desperately trying to locate the "Non Payer".
Actually the poor blokes took a lot of mickey taking but managed to put up a good show themselves. It was a great night and its good to hear since that Mark (on the right) is keen to get himself a Hood,
"Nice one whack!"
.
The racing was good ........
Poor lad looks like he drunk too much last night...
It was a bit sad to say our cheerio's to our mates, most of whom we would not see again till "Stafford" next year
Just before we left the circuit we spotted these three dodgy looking characters, wonder what they were up to?
