Working on a new Rear Suspension!
Remember the problem with the rear springs hitting the driveshafts! We decided the best way to go was to ditch the fitted springs and dampers and get a set of Coilovers instead.
Unfortunately in another builders design flaw this bolt had been put in so that it could not be removed without taking off the brake drums first.
OK so out came the grinder !
Here Joey is cutting off the lower bolt.
This was the bolts holding the brackets at the top in place, Mmm how many threads should be showing past the nut?
"3", I seem to remember !!!
And in no time at all he had the dampers off.
Next job was to remove the top spring mounting cups. We will cut these up to manufacture a mounting bracket to suit the coilover fitting
Here is what we ended up with, The fork end was made out of some 3mm Steel which we welded onto the original tube, We have added an extra bolt hole further up the tube because the Chassis tube that this bit slots into has been cut and too much has been removed for our liking so the extra bolt will give it back its strength.
Here it is fitted with our shiney 2nd hand Zeemeride, We bought this set off our friend Steve Altwasser after he changed the ones on his DOHC Hood. Thats solved the Driveshaft Chaffing problem then!
