Hood Number Three "Are we Mad?"
Or go straight to the Next Step
I saw a Part Built Hood on the for sale section of RHOCAR, it looked just the job for our pal Lee and his daughter Bethany who were pretty keen to get a Kit Car ever since they were the first people to try Joeys car for size.
For some silly reason Lee was a bit unsure if he could build a car. I suggested that we go halfers on the car and build it in his garage, He made an instant decision and it was not long before we started the long trek to Scotland.
Dr Fox (James) and Pete (I'llbegladwhenhegetsajob) from RHOCAR kindly lent us their trailer for the epic journey, Amazingly Lee and Bethany had never been further North than Whitby , And here they are up in Scotland, If you look very carefully you can see Lee's "Oxygen Bottle" in his left hand
and the poor old Mondeo in the background was full of the Felton's "Artic Survival Kit"
The journey up went really well and we found out that its not the Scots who are mean, We travelled over two suspension Bridges, The Humber and the Forth, The Humber cost £2.50 and the Forth only Cost £1 (Both Ways) now you tell me who the "Mean Buggers" are!
We reached John's house as it was getting dark but we soon got stuck in, Here we see Lee taking charge of the loading up, Poor Bethany looks terrified
"Cmon Girl get that ramp secured!"
The first accident of the day was when John was a bit late on the brakes and broke the number plate Thats what all the fast laps and hard braking round Knockhill do for you John
Despite Dr Fox's measurements it seemed that the Sierra was slightly too long so we had to remove the ramps and store them in the "Donor"
Oh Bugger, we forgot the spare rear axle
We decided to just take the Diff, so Lee got stuck in with his favourite tool "The Lump Hammer"!
After a nice cup of Tea, some lovely Pancakes, Shortbread and some great company, "Thanks John and Mrs John". We got on our way to Falkirk 90 miles South. As soon as we got on a straight bit we realised we had trouble. 45mph and we got into a bad speed wobble, we quickly decided that we had to travel the rest of the way at a maximum of 43mph
!
At our first stop Lee managed to embarrass young Bethany with his "Silly Wood Walk routine", Wonder what he was doing up there, and more importantly did he wash his hands ?
Our overnight stop was at the "Hotel F1" in Falkirk, first impressions were not too bad apart from finding an "M&Ms" wrapper on the bunk bed and a can of Coke on the window sill, anyway we decided to dine at the Restaurant next door, until we found that they did not allow Children under 16
We walked a bit further and found a "Brewsters Fare" place but as it was 10 to 10 they said we could not get any bloody food, Right we decided to get a carry out and a take away meal from the chinky but guess what ? Scotland Offys do not sell alcohol after 10pm
Glad I don't live there
Things went from bad to worse the next morning when we got up nice and early for the free "Continental Breakfast", as you can see there was nobody else up!
Not very happy Breakfast was supposed to start at 7 am, I have written to the company to complain so lets wait and see what they say.
We even managed to arrive at the services before they re stocked their sandwiches, never mind the nearby garage had a good supply so we filled up us and the car there!
After what seemed like a very long time we stopped for lunch, the all 3 cars seemed pretty good, the poor old Mondeo must have hated sitting at this walking pace, but anyway it was now time for Lee to take a turn at driving
Looks like the rust inside the chassis tubes is being washed out !
Poor kids had a long time stuck in the car, but they both did well!
When Lee was driving the "Sat Nav" directed us off the M6 motorway and across country on the A66, after a while I noticed the traffic was building up behind us, I suggested to Lee that we pull over at a layby, Lee's response was "Bugger off I pay my road tax!" Look at this lot stuck behind us, I would like to point out to all you miserable drivers that were caught behind us that "I wanted to pull over" and it was "Lee who did not!"
11 Hours later we arrived home, after unloading everthing else we had to give the Sierra a quick "Tow Start" so we strapped it to the trailer and the good old Mondeo pulled the whole lot into life.
The Sierra was then driven into its last resting place, Lee and Joey seemed happy after a long couple of days!
And Bethany seemed pretty pleased too.
