More work before Stoneleigh
Windscreen, Wipers, Deflectors and Indicators
We had to replace the Windscreen supports after they were bent earlier in our little Bonnet problem, So we decided to use the ones off "2B (2)". We also decided not to use the Robin Hood method of using 3 little self tappers when securing the Screen to the support. This time we are using some "U" section Aluminium which we will Rivet to the support using countersink rivets (Countersunk on both sides).
Here it is assembled to the car, when its bolted onto the car the Aluminium sections grip nicely onto the windscreen Frame, you can see by the picture we have got to bend the Drivers support in slightly as it does not sit against the Windscreen all the way up.
I think we have to trim the sections slightly, or shall we leave them on and fit some flags to them
We trimmed the lower part of the section to suit the curve of the Scuttle.
Here is the view from the rear, you can see quite clearly how much the top part needs bending in.
When we had finished bending it all into place we stripped the whole lot down, cleaned it up then treated it to a couple of coats of primer.
Then we finally assembled the whole lot together using plenty of "Jointing Compound" to stop dissimilar metal corrosion.
Then we rivetted the whole lot together using countersunk "Hidiuminium" Solid Rivets.
We treated the whole lot to a couple of coats of paint using the colour matched stuff we got from Halfords. We also used a bit of sheet Rubber under the support that will stop any potential problems where the Steel would have sat on the Stainless.
This is our new Surrey clamp fitted nicely
And here is the Deflectors and Wipers all fitted, we think it looks pretty good.
Joey wanted to rewire the indicators on his own, after our earlier "Problems" we had just cut the original wires which ran along the old Bonnet, we did keep this section of wires so we could match up the new setup. Unfortunately we could not find it when we wanted it.
Final testing was carried out sucessfully.
Phew it looks like we made it in time.
And the next day we were at Stoneleigh for another Brilliant show, More about that later.
Here you can see the support with the "U" section temporarily fitted. As you can see from the picture we have again removed the rear section of the support.

Because of this Joey had to work out which wire was which using the Multimeter. He did a good job and when he had identified them all he soldered the new sections into the circuit. He put a couple of connectors into each side so we could remove the Nosecone without any problems.
He even had to do a bit of fault diagnosis when the Right Indicator did not work, the problem was very shortly found to be a soldered section touching the earth wire. An easy fix for the lad.
